Passeig de Gràcia, an old road that linked Ciutat Vella with the Vila de Gràcia, became, at the beginning of the 20th century, the most prestigious and fashionable avenue. The people from Barcelona went for a walk along the Passeig de Gràcia, where the most luxurious shops were located. This avenue became the object of desire of the Catalan bourgeoisie and particularly of the wealthiest businessmen, who wanted to build their houses there. This is what the textile businessman Josep Batlló did. He not only chose the most emblematic place but also the most relevant architect: the brilliant Antoni Gaudí. The result is this well-known work in which Gaudí replaced the old façade with a stone and glass with a shimmering effect, adding with figures of “iron masks” in the railings.

Casa Milà / La Pedrera
In 1906, the architect Antonio Gaudí was commissioned by Pere Milà i Camps – the son of a wealthy textile businessman and married to an heiress of coffee plantations – to build a manor house at the corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Provenza Street. The idea of the businessman was to build a large building, with the main floor designed to be his own residence, and the rest for renting. Additionally, the ground floor was dedicated to shops, being a tailoring shop the first one. Due to its originality and unique structure and design, both architectural and ornamental, the artistic style used by Gaudí departs from modernism to approach expressionism.

Las Ramblas
In the south-west corner of Plaça de Catalunya, is born one of the most famous and possibly the most touristic streets in Barcelona, so everyone who comes to visit the city should walk around here at least once. This is the Rambla, the street that connects Plaça de Catalunya with the Port Vell, the old harbour of Barcelona, where the Moll d’Espanya and the Moll Bosch i Alsina, popularly known as the Moll de la Fusta, are located. Apart from the urban and architectural elements that we find in the Rambla and its surroundings, it is unquestionable that its charm lies in this special atmosphere, a mixture between bohemian and touristic.

Parc Güell
The Parc Güell owes its name to Count Güell, representative of the Catalan bourgeoisie, who in 1899 bought two adjoining properties on the El Carmel Mountain and commissioned the architect Antonio Gaudí to carry out the modernist reform of both of them. He conceived it with a religious sense, taking advantage of the unevenness to symbolize a path of “spiritual elevation”. Several of his disciples helped him in this work, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the city of Barcelona.

Sagrada Familia
The origins date back to 1866, when the construction of an expiatory temple dedicated to the Holy Family was promoted. A few years later, and thanks to the donations received, a 12,000 m2 (129,000 sq. feet) plot of land was purchased between the streets Marina, Provenza, Mallorca and Cerdeña. The first stone was laid in 1882, and the following year the architect Antonio Gaudí took over the reins, who after receiving fantastic donations decided to reject the initial neo-Gothic project and change it for another one, more monumental and with more innovative forms. This monumental construction basically consists of a church with a latin cross plan and towers of great height. The completion of this magnificent work is expected in 2026.
